This guitar was inspired by the classic design of a 1938 Gibson L7 that was in my shop for repairs a few years ago. It is 17″ wide and 3 1/2″ deep. The back and sides are made from Red Maple that was harvested 20 years ago and the soundboard is 75 year old Sitka spruce. The neck is maple and the fretboard and bridge are ebony. The tuners are by Waverly. The tailpiece is hand made of brass and chrome plated to replicate the tailpiece on the “38 Gibson.
This guitar has the quintessential tone of an old archtop guitar, whether playing solo lines or chords. It is loud, warm, extremely well balanced and everything most players seem to want in an archtop guitar. This guitar sounds the same as the one in the video.
